Trampoline & Tumbling

Our Trampoline & Tumbling program uses state-of-the-art equipment and makes us one of the most complete training centers in Michigan. While competitive Trampoline & Tumbling has existed for many years, it is a relatively new sport to USA Gymnastics. Trampoline was just introduced as an Olympic sport during the 2000 Olympic Games. Athletes compete on three apparatuses in the T&T program: trampoline, double-mini trampoline, and a tumbling rod floor. The Trampoline & Tumbling Program is an exceptional vehicle to build physical strength, muscular control, and overall body awareness. AWTT offers both recreational and team T&T programs.

POWER TUMBLING
Our two fiberglass rod-floor runways are 86 feet long and 6 feet wide. The rod floor enables athletes to achieve high-flying, explosive skills with multiple flips and twists throughout the run. Competitors perform two passes, each containing 8 skills along the track, usually starting with a Roundoff, Barani, or Rudi (all forward, twisting flips) followed by a series of back-handsprings and whips (a fast, long backflip done in a straight body position) ending in a 'dismount' skill. In the lower levels, there are rules about what each pass should contain. At more advanced levels there is a choice about the skills performed. This includes adding much more difficulty to the passes by adding twisting whips (called single, double or triple fulls) in the middle of the pass. The dismounting skill is often another double or triple full or a double or triple backflip, which can also include extra twists.

TRAMPOLINE
Our four in-ground competitive trampolines are 7X14 foot rectangles that can catapult an athlete as high as 30 feet above the ground. During competition, the athlete performs two competitive routines with ten skills each. High-level competitors can achieve double, triple, and twisting somersaults.

DOUBLE-MINI TRAMPOLINE
The double-mini is a two-level trampoline. This event can be compared to springboard diving using a mat instead of water. The athlete runs and jumps onto the trampoline, performs a skill while landing back onto the trampoline, then springs from the trampoline executing one more skill onto the landing mat. Competitors will do two passes during competition and can get as high as 20 feet in the air.
